Delhi Police is investigating Apollo Hospital about the case involving Samir Modi, the executive director of Godfrey Phillips India. The inquiry centres around the hospital's issuance of two distinct discharge summaries, each bearing different dates for the surgery. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the years of surgery indicated in the summaries are 2019 and 2024.
Delhi Police have requested an explanation from Apollo Hospital regarding the circumstances that led to the issuance of these two conflicting documents. Samir Modi has alleged that his mother, Bina, along with other directors, has conspired to remove him from the board.
Earlier, Delhi Police had confirmed that Surendra Prasad, the personal security officer (PSO) of Bina Modi, who serves as the chairperson and managing director of the company, had assaulted Samir Modi.
In light of these events, the PSO has submitted a letter to the Delhi Police and filed a petition in Saket Court, seeking an investigation into the allegations and a new assessment of Samir Modi’s injuries by a government hospital.
Manu Sharma, Counsel to the PSO of Bina Modi, said: “The normal practice is to prepare one discharge summary. However in this case there are two And even those two have different dates of surgery procedure. The CCTV footage negates the theory of assault. We have asked Delhi Police should investigate this by a government hospital."
Prasad has formally denied having received any directives from Bina Modi or Lalit Bhasin, and he has documented this assertion in writing.
Godrej Phillips family feud
In June, Samir Modi, the younger son of Bina and KK Modi, filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the Delhi Police. He accused his mother, her Personal Security Officer (PSO), and directors from Godfrey Phillips of causing him 'grievous hurt.' Subsequently, he engaged the legal services of Vijay Aggarwal and initiated proceedings in the Saket District Court. Through his attorney, Samir requested oversight of the investigation, sought the preservation of CCTV footage and call records related to the accused individuals, and called for the confiscation of their mobile devices.
CCTV footage captured PSO Surendra Prasad preventing Samir Modi from proceeding, and medical documentation verifies that Samir Modi suffered serious injuries. As a result, charges have been filed under Sections 325 and 341 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for the intentional infliction of grievous hurt.
Bina Modi serves as the Chairman of Modi Enterprises, where she supervises notable companies including Godfrey Phillips. Samir Modi holds the position of Executive Director at Godfrey Phillips and participates on the boards of various other firms within the Modi Enterprises group.
Although he qualifies for reappointment, the Nomination and Remuneration Committee (NRC) has recommended against Samir Modi's continued presence on the board, citing issues related to his conduct, a perceived culture of disrespect, and claims of spreading false allegations.
