Veteran journalist, author, former CIC and founder of Save Bharat Save Culture, Uday Mahurkar tells senior journalist Surajit Dasgupta that the fact that many have got away with murder does not justify not punishing the 'BeerBiceps' channel owner #RanveerAllahabadia for the perverted 'joke' he cracked at the #IndiasGotLatent show.

Meanwhile, the cyber police department of Maharashtra has denied YouTuber Samay Raina's request for an extension to participate in the investigation concerning a case filed against him, podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, and others related to an "obscene joke" made by Allahbadia during the comedian's show, India's Got Latent.

Raina's attorney requested additional time from the cyber police, citing that he was travelling abroad. However, the police rejected this request and issued a second summons, instructing him to appear before them on 17 February, according to a source from the cyber police on 13 February.

Social media users and a few state governments erupted over an episode of India’s Got Latent where Ranveer Allahbadia asked a contestant what verges on advocacy for incest: “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?”

State action against Ranveer Allahabadia

The programme and its participants, notably Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina, faced tremendous backlash from netizens, film industry figures, celebrities, politicians and the general populace. Assam Police was the first to file a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the show, followed by actions taken by the Maharashtra cyber police.

The cyber police have summoned Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia, influencer Apoorva Mukhija, along with other artists, comedians, influencers, content creators, YouTubers, actors, participants and organisers associated with Raina’s show, as they have all been implicated in the case.

To date, none of the individuals accused have presented themselves before the cyber police, although legal representatives for some have made contact with the authorities. Additionally, the police have requested that YouTube remove all episodes of Raina’s show that contain inappropriate language.

On 12 February, Samay Raina announced via social media that he had deleted all videos of India’s Got Latent from his YouTube channel and expressed his commitment to fully cooperate with all relevant agencies to ensure a fair conclusion to their investigations.
