The Adani Group has awarded an order worth Rs 7,000 crore to the state-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) for the construction of two supercritical thermal power plants. The plants are to be constructed at Raipur in Chhattisgarh and at Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh, according to a statement issued by BHEL.
The Raipur project, which is a 2x800 MW supercritical thermal power plant, has been commissioned by the Adani Power Limited. The Mirzapur project, which is also a 2x800 MW supercritical thermal power plant, has been commissioned by MTEUPPL, a subsidiary of Adani Power Limited, the statement said.
BHEL would be responsible for the manufacture and supply of essential components for the plants as well as the accessories, and would also oversee commissioning and setting up of the projects. Equipment such as generators, steam generators and steam turbines are to be produced at the Haridwar and Tiruchirappalli plants of BHEL.
Headquartered in New Delhi, BHEL, or Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, is a public sector undertaking (PSU). It is the largest power generation equipment manufacturing unit owned by the Government of India, and is controlled by the Ministry of Heavy Industries.
BHEL has played a crucial part in the development of India’s infrastructure over the decades. The public sector undertaking is involved in construction, design, engineering, manufacturing and testing, besides the commissioning and servicing of products that cater to a range of sectors as varied as aerospace, defence, electric equipment, hydropower, industry, locomotive, nuclear power, rail transport, renewable energy, thermal power, transmission, transportation, oil and gas.
