Gautam Adani replaced Mukesh Ambani as the richest Indian on Hurun India Rich List for 2024, while Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan made his debut on the list that shows India now has 334 billionaires.
The total wealth of the billionaires who made it to the list comprises more than 50 per cent of India’s GDP.
THE TOP 10
Adani Group’s Gautam Adani, 62, and family have wealth worth Rs 11,61,800 crore, according to the list, as of July 31, 2024.
Reliance Industries owner Mukesh Ambani and family in the second top spot have Rs 10,14,700 crore.
HCL’s Shiv Nadar and family take position number three on the Rich List with Rs 3,14,000 crore.
Serum Institute’s Cyrus S Poonawalla and family are in the fourth spot with Rs 2,89,800 crore.
Dilip Shanghvi of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries is fifth on the list with Rs 2,49,900 crore.
Aditya Birla Group’s Kumar Mangalam Birla and family (Rs 2,35,200 crore), Hinduja Group’s Gopichand Hinduja and family (Rs 1,92,700 crore), Avenue Supermart’s Radhakishan Damani and family (Rs 1,90,900 crore), Wipro’s Azim Premji and family (Rs 1,90,700 crore) and Bajaj Group’s Niraj Bajaj and family (Rs 1,62,800 crore) complete the top 10 on the list.
Notably, Kaivalya Vohra, the 21-year-old founder of Zepto, is the youngest billionaire on the list with wealth worth Rs 3,600 crore.
SRK MAKES DEBUT ON RICH LIST
Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is in the Hurun India Rich List this year. SRK, 58, is estimated to have wealth worth Rs 7,300 crore, largely owing to his IPL club Kolkata Knight Riders and film production house Red Chillies Entertainment.
In all, there are seven new entrants from the world of entertainment, who added Rs 40,500 crore over the past year.
Juhi Chawla, SRK’s business partner and co-owner at KKR, is the second richest person from the world of show business, with wealth of Rs 4,600 crore.
Hrithik Roshan is at the third spot among showbiz billionaires, with wealth worth Rs 2,000 crore, driven by his athleisure brand HRX.
Amitabh Bachchan and family, with Rs 1,600 crore, are at the fourth spot while filmmaker Karan Johar with Rs 1,400 crore is the fifth richest showbiz personality.
INDIA’S BILLIONAIRE COUNT UP, CHINA’S DOWN
India added 75 new billionaires over a year as of July 31, 2024, and recorded a 29 per cent rise in billionaire count, while China witnessed a 25 per cent drop.
According to the list, India currently has 1,539 persons with at least Rs 1,000 crore. Among them, 534 individuals can be defined as High Net Worth Individuals (HNIs) with wealth more than Rs 5,000 crore.
Interestingly, wealth creation in India is no longer restricted to the metros but has increasingly become decentralised. The list features people from 97 cities across the country, up from 10 cities when it was launched around a decade ago.
