Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday highlighted how his government had “tried to address every sector and factor, which are required for rapid progress of the country”, in the first 100 days of its third term.
“India is the best bet for the 21st century,” PM Modi said, while addressing the 4th edition of Global Renewable Energy Investors Meet and Expo, or RE-INVEST 2024, in Gandhinagar. At the event organised by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), he highlighted a range of issues including India’s green future, upcoming solar cities, the country’s goal of generating 31 GW of hydropower, and the mission to create two million jobs under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
“In the first 100 days you can witness our priorities, speed and scale. We have tried to address every sector and factor, which are required for rapid progress of the country,” PM Modi said in his address, adding: “India’s diversity, scale, capacity, potential and performance are unique and that is the reason I say Indian solutions for global application.”
Renewable energy is the basis for India’s long-term development, the PM noted. “For us green future and net zero are not just fancy words but requirements of the country. We are committed to achieve these,” he said. “We have decided to build our future with renewable energy, as we lack oil and gas resources,” he added.
India’s green plans include developing 17 cities including Ayodhya as “model solar cities”. Modi 3.0 is also working to ensure Indian Railway, which caters to nearly 1.5 crore passengers every day, attains a net-zero emission status.
At the event, the Prime Minister mentioned that more than Rs 12,000 crore has been allotted for the generation of 31GW of hydropower in the future. Focussing on the significance of creating jobs, he said around two million jobs are to be created under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
“The poor feel the third term of the government will help fulfil their aspirations,” Modi said, adding that the first 100 days of the current term have shown that the government’s plan of infrastructure development is aligned with the aspirations of the nation’s underprivileged. Seven crore houses were being constructed all across the country.
