Inside story of Justice Verma & case of burning cash: What really happened

Cash, cash everywhere and yet not a rupee to be found! In a simple sense, that’s what appears to be the reality of the ongoing Justice Yashwant Verma saga. While the three judge committee appointed by the Supreme Court to look into the allegations of this alleged cash stash at judges outhouse is still continuing with its business, Justice Verma has already been administered oath of office. That too at a private ceremony in Allahabad. Why ? Because the bar association there is upset with the judge being sent to Allahabad. 

So what happens to the allegations? Is it now a case of much ado about nothing?

The Squirrels has been speaking to multiple sources over last two weeks to make sense of what could really have happened. All these sources that have been spoken to chose to remain off record.

CASH: FOUND OR PLANTED?

First up, the question - was there cash found or was it planted ? Yes, cash was found as has been shown in the videos too that were uploaded on Supreme Court website.

Was it planted ? This is where the story gets really intriguing. It now appears that the outhouse where this cash was found was being used as a storage area allegedly by someone else. The identity of this person could end up opening a Pandora’s box which is why no one that The Squirrels spoke to was willing to take a name, even off record.

Because, think again, a sitting judge of Delhi High court, his outhouse being used as a storehouse?! The Squirrels could not independently corroborate this as public access is now restricted.

Sources say a lawyer couple, related to a news anchor working with one of the corporate controlled media houses, were allegedly involved in depositing this ‘luggage’ in this outhouse. What the relationship of theirs’ with Justice Verma is, is still unknown.

THE MOTIVE

There are many within the top echelon of the judiciary who swear by Justice Verma’s honesty. Eulogies are being recited on his family legacy, him coming from a wealthy family and him just not being the kind of person he is being made to it to be.  He himself has taken this position that he has no idea where this  cash came from. So where did it come from? Two scenarios.

1.     All sides acted in a hurry. When Chief Justice Khanna came to know of the video footage, he supposedly had no other choice but to act. So where it could have come from will become a subject of a never ending investigation.

2.     The entire story was created by a top judicial officer with family stakes in higher echelons of judiciary. The moment this officer got wind of “some cash “ being discovered, this officer used media access, built over a period of time, to give the case a certain colour.

3.     Ultimately, the truth may lie in CCTV footage from Justice Verma’s house and CCTV cameras installed nearby. Who were the people who came to the judges house in the week before the “fire incident “ ?

Given the nature of this case and the impact it has had across the board, perhaps it’s best that the entire investigation being done by the committee of chief justices is put out in public domain.
