The Indian Army has marked 2025 as a landmark year of operational excellence, rapid modernization, and enhanced self-reliance, culminating in a series of transformative achievements that strengthen its role as a future-ready force. Operation Sindoor
The standout highlight of the year was Operation Sindoor in May 2025, launched as a calibrated, tri-services response to the Pahalgam terror attack perpetrated by Pakistan Army-backed terrorists. This decisive operation destroyed nine terrorist camps across the border—seven neutralized by the Indian Army and two by the Indian Air Force—while also dismantling over a dozen terror launch pads along the Line of Control (LoC). It successfully foiled multiple Pakistani drone attacks (using Turkish-origin systems) on military and civilian targets, reinforcing deterrence, disrupting infiltration networks, and demonstrating seamless jointness among the Army, Air Force, and Navy. The operation ended with Pakistan seeking a ceasefire through DGMO-level channels, marking a clear assertion of India's operational dominance and a shift toward proactive counter-terrorism.
Modernisation Drive
Beyond this combat success, the Army accelerated its modernisation drive: precision firepower advancements included successful combat launches of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile by Southern Command units and enhanced testing of the Pinaka multi-barrel rocket system, boosting long-range deep-strike capabilities.
The Army Aviation Corps received a major boost with the induction of six AH-64E Apache attack helicopters, significantly elevating aerial strike power and battlefield lethality.
A remarkable 91% indigenisation of ammunition was achieved (159 out of 175 variants), reducing import dependence and bolstering supply chain resilience under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
New organizational structures, unmanned systems integration, and digital reforms transitioned the force toward networked, technology-driven warfare. Joint Exercises
The year also saw expanded global military diplomacy through joint exercises like SHAKTI (France), YUDH ABHYAS (USA), AUSTRAHIND (Australia), AJEYA WARRIOR (UK), and DESERT CYCLONE (UAE), enhancing interoperability and strategic partnerships. These accomplishments, highlighted by the Indian Army at the end of 2025, reflect a pivotal transformation—blending real-world operational assertion with deep indigenization and joint capabilities—positioning the force as a confident guardian of India's sovereignty.
On this Army Day, the nation salutes the bravery, innovation, and dedication of its soldiers.
