The Haryana assembly election, which will determine the composition of a 90-member legislature, is scheduled for 5 October.

As the campaign gains momentum, the political landscape of the state is experiencing notable transformations.

Factors such as caste dynamics, intra-party conflicts, the diminishing influence of sub-regional leaders, issues related to basic amenities, the plight of landowners who sold their fields to the government for highway construction, water shortages, the Agniveer recruitment scheme that changed how the Indian Army employed youth, the repercussions of the anti-farm law protests and, above all, the record of the BJP government in the past 10 years, are all contributing to the evolving electoral scenario.

Issues in Haryana one by one

The 'plight' of farmers matters big-time in the state.

Haryana was at the forefront of the agitation against the three farm reform laws that the Narendra Modi government had introduced in 2020, which it withdrew under pressure or electoral compulsion in 2021.

Even government allocations for sports is an issue in the state that boasts of an enviable track record of contributing dozens of Olympic and World Championship medals to the country. And if it's sports, how can the controversy surrounding Vinesh Phogat's disqualification at the Paris Olympics stay out of the electoral talks in the state?

Team Squirrels found the Congress enthusiastic at the hustings while the BJP seemed to lack the drive, even as voters' opinions made the distinct approaches of the two archrivals plausible. This was the scene in Bahadurgarh:

Wherever our team went, disaffection with the incumbent was palpable.

The Agniveer scheme is a bone of contention.

Shopkeepers aren't happy either.

Before wrapping up the tour, a point must be made about the lack of sensitivity to animal rights in the country.
