Shashi Tharoor

Shashi Tharoor, born on March 9, 1956, is a prominent Indian activist, politician, historian, public intellectual, author, and former diplomat. He has represented Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, as a Member of Parliament since 2009. Currently, he holds the position of Chairman of the Standing Committee on Chemicals and Fertilizers. Tharoor previously served as an Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and made an unsuccessful bid for the role of Secretary-General in 2006. He is the Founder-Chairman of the All India Professionals Congress and has held the position of Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, as well as on Information Technology. With approximately twenty published works to his name, he was recognized by the World Economic Forum as a "Global Leader of Tomorrow."
