 1.        All of his speeches were written in Urdu. He had done his schooling in that language

2.        He left a UN job to teach in the Delhi School of Economics. He was at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) for three years.

3.        India’s first PM Jawaharlal Nehru offered him a job in the government, but he chose to teach economics in a college in Amritsar.

4.        Amritsar was his home following Partition. He was 14 when he left Pakistan

5.        He used to walk several kilometers daily to go to school and studied under kerosene lamps and streetlights.

6.        Cambridge, where he got his BA & MA, gives scholarships in his name called the Dr Manmohan Singh Scholarships and is meant for Indian students.

7.        He has a PhD from Oxford University’s Nufflield College and his thesis there became a seminal book on India’s international trade.

8.        He was the second PM after Nehru to get two full terms

9.        Though PM twice, he never won a direct election. He was always in the Rajya Sabha.
